Bill was a friend all through school.  We started with kindergarden and remained friends.  He was an awesome guy with a great smile.  Rest in peace Bill, you will be missed.

William "Billy" E. Ackley, 68, of Moline, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island, where Jesus came and put his warm and loving arms around him and took him home.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline, where military honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. As he wished, cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

 

Bill was born March 5, 1948, in Davenport, the son of Edward B. and Eleanor Payson Ackley. He married Gloria Prieto on Aug. 6, 1977, in Moline. In his younger years, he worked as a brick layer. Later, he worked as a maintenance supervisor at the former Trinity Medical Centers in Moline and Rock Island for 29 years.

Bill was a Marine Corps veteran and a former runner who participated in the inaugural Bix 7. As a young adult, he played softball and racquetball. He was league treasurer and an avid bowler at Highland Park Bowl in Moline for more than 30 years. He especially enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada every year and riding his Harley Davidson. Bill was a huge Illini fan and enjoyed the White Sox and the Detroit Lions. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

 

Survivors include his wife, Gloria; daughters, Gina (Martin) Bundy, Iowa, and Felicia Van Hyfte, Moline; grandchildren, Tyler James, Austin Andre, Taylor Jean, Mariah Michelle and Colton Michael; and brother, Donald Ackley, San Tan Valley, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Another classmate from the Roosevelt Kindergarden class,Bill remained a close friend for 63 years. Rest in peace good buddy.
